Oualidia in winter: mild days, birds and the lagoon to yourself
From October to April, Oualidia is quiet again: mild days, birds on the lagoon, good waves and lower prices. Weather, things to do and tips for an off-season stay.

In summer Oualidia is busy. In winter the village slows down again: the lagoon is almost yours, the fishermen stay, the birds arrive. If you want peace rather than crowds, this is the best season.
What is the weather like?
Winter is mild on this coast. In January, days are around 17 °C in the sun, nights drop to about 11 to 13 °C, and it rains little: a few days a month. The ocean stays around 17 °C: cool, but the bravest still swim. Bring a sweater and a windbreaker for the evenings.

Bird season
The lagoon and its marshes are a protected wetland on the migration route between Europe and Africa. From autumn to spring, flamingos, herons, egrets and waders stop here. A walk along the shore early in the morning is enough to see many of them.
Winter waves
Winter is when the Atlantic swell is most consistent. Experienced surfers make the most of it along the coast, especially towards Lalla Fatna; beginners stick to gentler waves, with an instructor. For walkers, watching the waves break on the rocks is worth the trip.

Oysters and winter food
Winter is a good season for oysters and seafood, when sales are open: ask locally. And nothing beats a tagine or a fish soup after a windy day.
Lower prices
From October to April, our apartments start at €36 a night for two guests. A good reason to stay longer: a week to slow down, or a long weekend over the end-of-year holidays. See prices and availability.
